Tactical voting
Central Devon
Why vote Labour in Central Devon?
Central Devon constituency is based on small towns and a large rural area broadly west of Exeter. It has been held by the Conservatives since it was created in 2010. In contrast to some other rural seats in the South West, Labour has been in second place in 2017 and 2019 and represent the main challenge to the Tories. Local election success in some wards for other parties does not translate into general election viability. Latest polling shows Labour with a clear but not conclusive lead over the Conservatives in voting intention although things can change during election campaigns and polling has been in error in some past elections. The decisive factor may be how effectively people on each side of politics vote - the right is currently divided between the Conservatives and Reform UK. There are significant numbers of people intending to vote Green or Lib Dem, nowhere near enough to win but possibly enough to enable the Tories to hang on thanks to a split in the vote.
