Tactical voting
Southport
Why vote Labour in Southport?
Southport constituency - now including a rural area from West Lancashire - is a key target for Labour. Southport has a history of Lib Dem activity, and the party held the seat in 1987-92 and 1997-2015. The Lib Dems remain active in local government elections. However, there was a large swing from Lib Dem to Labour over the general elections of 2015 and 2017 and Labour emerged as the clear challengers to the Conservatives at parliamentary level (and has also gained in strength in local elections). Neither the Greens nor the Lib Dems regard Southport as a target seat at this election.
